Sr. Prassede Valiyaveetil

Sr. Prassede Valiaveetil R.I.P.  16 January 2016 “Those we love don't go away,  They walk beside us every day,                        Unseen, unheard, but always near,   Still loved, still missed and very dear.”   Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a boundary line, and, a boundary line is nothing, just the limit of our sight. Yes, our dear Sr. Prassede was summoned by the Lord to the limit of our sights on 16 January, 2016 at 4.30 am. Though her sudden demise leaves a void in our lives, she lives in the hearts of all those who know her. Sr. Prassede the 3rd of the 8 children of Devassy and Eleykutty Valiaveetil was born on 21 May1931 in Edathuruthy, of Eringalakkuda Diocese in Kerala. After completing her studies and the Teachers Training Course’ she joined our Institute UMI at Kannur, in 1957.  Having completed her formation, she made her first profession on 26 May 1960 and final profession on 23 May 1965. Sr. Prassede was a teacher, by profession, and she served in the teaching ministry from 1957 to 1986:  in Burnacherry, Punchakad, Mariampur, Calicut and Trikaripur. After the retirement she gave her service to USSS, Kannur for 8 years. As a good teacher she was warm, accessible, passionate and caring in a special way, towards the poor and weak students. She nurtured and developed the young minds by devoting her time and knowledge.   After spending 37 years of service in the education ministry she was living a life of retirement and was a blessing to the community of Kannur. The mission of Sr. Prassede was to know and love God and make others to do the same. Indeed, she was a woman of prayer, deeply committed and dedicated. She was known for her punctuality, sociability, simplicity and obedience especially accepting the will of God through the Superiors and those in authority. She gave great importance to community life and participated in all the activities of the community, in spite of her age and health. She was very appreciative of and warmly welcomed everyone who entered the portals of our Ursuline Convent. Her life inspires us and we will cherish her memory, too beautiful to forget. Sr. Prassede’s life journey ended on January 16, suddenly, due to heart failure. Her mortal remains was kept in our Chapel at Kannur till the 17 noon. Many Priests, Sisters,  her relatives and all those who knew her paid the last homage to her in prayer and keep vigil The funeral ceremony began at 3.00 pm. on 17th. Most Rev. Dr. Alex Vadakumthala, Bishop of Kannur, concelebrated the Holy Mass with Msgr. Antony Pius Edezhath, Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Burnacherry, Episcopal co-ordinator Rev. Fr. Robin Daniel OFM Cap and 7 other priests. Rev. Fr. George Painadath, in his homily, enlightened the faithful and depicted Sister Prassede as a “Perfect Ursuline” and “Perfect Religious”. Sister Prassede is buried at Cannanore Cemetery in the area set aside for the Ursuline Sisters. When the heart grieves over what was lost, the spirit rejoices over what it has left.  Let us hold dear to our heart all the sweet memories and inspirations Sister Prassede has left behind. May our Faith sustain us as we voyage towards the eternal home she already enjoys! "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."  Revelation 21:4
