Tanzanian Mission

The UMI Congrgation founded in 1649 extended its frontier to Indian Soil in 1934 and having firmly rooted in India. It began looking out for new expansion. The invitation from the Archbishop of Songea, Tanzania sent through Fr.Chacko C.M became a reality, after a lot of correspondence and formal visit by our ex Mother General Giovanna Alberoni and the Provincial Superior of Sacred Heart Province Sr.Vandana Fernandes in July 2000. Srs.Geena vegathanam, Alinda Jose Kalluvellikunnel and Sucorrine Rebello formed the Pioneering group.
May 11th 2001 the pioneering group with zeal and enthusiasm bade good-bye to the motherland India along with Sr.Vandana. May 14th they reached Songea by covering 1000 Km. Archbishop Norbert Mtega along with many priest, Sisters and Parishners welcomed them with blowing of horns, drumming and shrills.

On 11th September 2004 we have started our Formation House Lihwena. Sr.Succorin Rebello and Sr.Pius Porangal were the first formators who instilled in the formees the spirituality nd charism of our Blessed Brigida Morello.

The long cherished dream of the Tanzanian Mission was realized on 9th July 2011. We joined our hearts in Thanksgiving to the Lord and Our Foundress Blessed M. Brigida, as we celebrated the first indigenous vocations of Sr.Petronilla Mgani and Sr.Salome Mwenda. They are the first fruits of our Tanzanian Mission. Oh! What joy it was to witness the twin-born Tanzanian Ursulines!
