Sr. Vandana Fernandes New Superior General of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate

One of the significant moments of the General Chapter is the election of the new Superior General and Council. The 66th General Chapter elected Rev. Sr. Vandana Fernandes, as the Superior General. She hails from Goa the land of scenic beauty and undaunted faith. She is the 3rd Indian Superior General with an innovative vision and mission. She has replaced Sister Elvira Mattapally, an Indian who led the congregation for two terms since 2009.

Sister Vandana Fernandes has served the congregation as an educator, formator, provincial of the Sacred Heart Province Bangalore. She was the assistant general at the time of election. The chapter also elected Sisters Nirupa Puthenpurackal, Ester Delrio, Lilly Jose Parankulangara and Sherin Lobo as members of the general council.

The new superior General Sr. Vandana Fernandes, motivated every member to follow the example our Foundress, Bl. Brigida of Jesus, who drew inspiration from the Crucified Lord, responded to the signs of her time. Every UMI is called to discern and to take decisive steps towards social sensitivity, ecological balance and human dignity thus become Sowers of Prophetic Hope in a world devastated without hope.
